About

Welcome to the North Downs Sinfonia

We are an amateur symphony orchestra that plays a wide repertoire of orchestral music, with concerts twice a year in Tatsfield Village Hall, Surrey.

Our history

North Downs Sinfonia was formed in 2005 by David Preston and Peter Warner. Our inaugural concert was in July of that year and we have been rehearsing and performing in Tatsfield, on the Surrey-Kent border, ever since. Our players come from local towns including Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks and Croydon as well as from Tatsfield itself and further afield.

Our aim is to provide a concert programme that is varied and entertaining, with a number of popular favourites, but we do not shy away from occasionally playing the less well known or more challenging work as part of our repertoire.  To get a flavour of our repertoire please see our previous concerts.

Unlike most other orchestras, we do not have a single musical director. Instead we invite conductors on a per-concert or per-rehearsal basis, which means that playing with us is always a fresh and stimulating experience.

Interested in joining us?

We very much enjoy and are grateful for the strong support from the village and surrounding areas, and welcome enquiries from musicians at or above grade 7 standard, especially string players.

Rehearsals are on the first Sunday of the month, from 2 till 5pm (with a tea break). This tends to work quite well if you already play with other musical groups.  Our concerts are on Saturday evenings, preceded by a rehearsal at the usual time and a meal (optional).
