7 May 2022 'Classical Favourites and Hidden Gems' concert review

The NDS held their Spring Concert in Tatsfield Village Hall as usual.

The concert started with the virtually unknown, but very tuneful, ‘Naiades’ overture by a composer who was celebrated in his time, William Sterndale Bennett. This was followed by the Mozart Symphony No 31 - the Paris, named after the location where it was written and first performed.  The weather was excellent, allowing the 70 people who attended to stretch their legs outside during the relaxed interval.

The second half of the concert consisted of the mighty Piano Concerto No 5, the Emperor, by Beethoven. This was beautifully performed by the soloist, Mariela Cingo.

The concert was conducted by Ben Knowles. Unlike Mariela, who had played with the orchestra many times,  Ben had never conducted the NDS, but he will undoubtedly be invited back.

The concert was enjoyed by orchestra and audience alike, all of whom left with a smile on their faces.
